Singapore will resume as normal ):onTuesday, June 23, 2009 11:03 AM
Health Minister Khaw Boon Wan has said schools will re-open and the Asian Youth Games and National Day celebrations will carry on.
However, recently-returned students who have travelled to affected countries will stay at home for one week before joining their classmates when schools re-open on Monday. The Ministry of Education (MOE) will provide more details soon, added Mr Khaw.
The health minister was speaking at a news conference on Monday to give an update on the latest developments on the Influenza A(H1N1) situation. Mr Khaw said that overall, life must continue as normally as possible, with targeted control measures. One of them would be to close a school when a significant cluster is found so as to break the transmission, or to isolate a competing team from other athletes as was done with the Filipino and the Hong Kong football players. Mr Khaw also revealed that the scientific committee, chaired by the Director of Medical Services, is effectively evaluating the characteristics and the genome of the virus.
The committee has determined that the H1N1 virus in Singapore remains identical with that in North America. Hence, the consensus view was that the virus remains moderate-risk and Singaporeans need not panic over the development that there is now community spread in the country. Mr Khaw is confident that almost all infected cases will be able to recover fully and that Tamiflu and Relenza remain effective against the disease. He, however, added: "But I thought I should explain that moderate risk does not mean no death. Just like the seasonal flu, there will be some deaths. That's why we need to target the high-risk patients, especially those with underlying medical conditions and to render the best chance of a full recovery. "And that is why we need to allow our hospitals to be able to focus on the high-risk cases and not be distracted or overwhelmed by hundreds of mild cases."
Among those in the high risk include pregnant mothers, people with asthma, those on kidney dialysis or on chemotherapy. The Health Ministry intends to advise these groups of patients with direct mailers of what they can do to protect themselves. The ministry is also gearing up all its polyclinics and a few hundred general practitioners to treat suspected H1N1 cases in Singapore. Giving details of measures to tackle a wider community spread of the influenza, Mr Khaw explained that these will be called Pandemic Preparedness Clinics or PPCs and they can be recognised by their decal to handle walk-in suspect cases.
These clinics will only refer some categories of high-risk suspect patients to public hospitals. Mr Khaw said the Health Ministry will publicise to Singaporeans where these clinics are so they know where to seek advice.
He explained: "When the local bio-surveillance data confirms significant community spread and we need to move from containment to full mitigation, we will signal to the public to use these PPCs instead of going to the hospitals if their flu conditions are mild. And this may happen over the next few days." The health minister also revealed that the government would secure adequate supplies of the H1N1 vaccine for the population. Besides the existing supply contract with the vaccine manufacturer, Mr Khaw said the ministry is also in active negotiations with other vaccine manufacturers. The aim is to diversify the supply of H1N1 vaccines. Concluding, Mr Khaw said that last week has been eventful in the development of the outbreak in Singapore and the ministry has expected this development, given the large number of travellers returning from their June holidays.
But he said seven-week head start in battling the virus has been extremely useful, allowing the government to gear up its system for the community spread phase of the outbreak. His advice to Singaporeans is to carry on with their lives normally, but keep up the high standard of personal hygiene.
That is mainly what he said . And if you're lazy to read , here's a summary : The Health Minister , Mr Khaw said that the starting date of school will be normal , but for the students who went to affected countries will stay at home for 1 week . While the rest goes to school on Monday. (Despite the poll)

School will be extend for 1 week in Singapore.on 2:15 PM
Hey! I'm back from school! I just heard from Channel News Asia and my form teacher that Singapore's schools' holiday will extend for 1 week due to the H1N1 , which they don't call it Swine Flu anymore as there is nothing concerned with pigs .
Speaking of H1N1 ,Singapore also has confirmed another 16 new cases of H1N1. Seven are local and nine has travel history, bringing the total number of H1N1 cases in Singapore to 142.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has called on Singaporeans to do their best to work through the economic downturn together, as a society and country.
He was speaking at a community event at Jalan Kayu on Sunday, where he launched a S$45,000 programme to help needy families.
Speaking at the annual family day celebrations at Jalan Kayu, Mr Lee said: "Bonuses are down, unemployment has gone up, not as much as we feared, but it is higher than it would be. And we can see the effects as MPs, because in our Meet-the-People sessions, the numbers have gone up."
And Mr Lee said the government will help those looking for jobs and assistance.
He said: "The government has done what it needs to do through the GST offsets, the Resilience Package and the many schemes which Singapore has in the Budget and off the Budget, in order to help people in the ways which would help them to help themselves - keep their jobs, find new jobs and help their families."
However, the Prime Minister stressed that help must be given at different levels.
Tackling the economic crisis in Singapore also involves the "many helping hands" approach. And one programme which the Jalan Kayu division has launched is called Heartstrings. It will benefit a hundred needy families in the division.
Wee Siew Kim, MP, Ang Mo Kio GRC, said: "By using the Heartstrings approach, the local grassroots organisations, which is the RC, can reach out to them directly with a package of household necessities. We intend to make it an on-going project, it is not meant to be mandate just for these trying economic times.
"And we intend to start it small with a package of S$40-50 a month on the basis that we can sustain it. We also (that) intend every two months, the RC works with the other entities in the constituency, whether it is the merchants association, mosque or temple, and together they can reach out to the needy households in our midst, and the households also see that these entities are working together as part of a community."
This post ,I think , its too long . So I shall not post anymore! Remember to vote ^ .

Came back from Indonesia.onFriday, June 19, 2009 2:24 PM
I went Indonesia to play , it was so much fun! I played with my godmother's sister two little children , they're so cute! Mosquitoes are everywhere , I got bit 23 times! Yes , shocking. We traveled on bumboat , those small kinds of boats that float on the sea , yea that ! I rode on a motorcycle to Kampong cause we took a super huge yatch from Singapore to Indonesia (City/Town) for 2 hours . And after we reached there , we bought food and stuff and went to the hut where my godgrandfather lived . My godmother , my aunt , the two children got attacked by both ants and mosquitoes! We lived in a hotel in the city so dont worry that we have no place to sleep in. But! The thing is that right after I came back to Singapore , I got food poisoning (REAL) . Not just vomiting and such , I had stomach cramps and I vomitted almost 5 times until I had nothing to vomit about anymore. Until then, its already 12.45 A.M.! My mother worried and woke up my father to take a taxi to go to a 24 hours clinic . Worst thing is that there's no clinic opened that late. So we have to go everywhere. Finally , we found a clinic named WestPoint . It was so cold! Yeah , then after that I had heavy medications and fell asleep.
Next , I'm going to show you a video which is very nice.
Ok bye.

Since I've edited everything, the tip does not count anymore . Today was great! I went out with Isalyn (cousin) to Popular to buy stuff :) Next, we went Nation Library Board aka NLB and borrowed some books . We went into the quiet place where you read and I kept coughing _Awkward_. After this , we went to IMM , btw , we waited for shuttle bus . AND , we went eating and I had to go to the toilet 3 times! Then , we went to the playground of Level 3 in IMM and play with the water , suddenly , there's 1 woman (fat) security guard came and scold us . She said , " Ai! You 2 big children don't play and see you guys so wet!" ----------------- We went in IMM and then took the lift to dry ourselves , the minute cousin scolded the security fat , the lights in the lift turned off! BLACKOUT! We are like what happened? Then I kept clicking the buttons at the side , in a matter of seconds , the light came back. Weird...
Thats it , bye! Signing off , quinnchew.
